I guess we are all familiar with the term “snitch”. For those who do not know this term or they are hearing it for the first time; a snitch is a person who has chosen (or was forced to by a superior party) to spy on others and present the information that he collected as ammunition for himself or others to rise in their positions look better than the rest. Some people do it for a promotion, some do it for revenge but some do it just for the sake of it or maybe that’s just the way they are!!!

Go back in your memory to your school days; wasn’t there someone who would go running to the teacher to tell her/him about what others were saying about them? Or maybe go to the principal with information they got through the privilege of being one of the gang? Didn’t you hate that?

Sometimes; I would say that kids would do things like that because they are emotional and react faster to events; that’s why they do not think too much before doing such a thing, but what can you say when adults do that? Don’t they realize that they will be least trusted by those who give them the ear? What is the gain?

I really despise such individuals who are interfering in everything and snooping around to get as much information to rat you out. You will find them watching every word you say and every move you make so that they go running to the one person that would benefit from this info. It could be your boss or THE boss; they might be doing it to make you look bad or to get ahead of you, who knows?

I really wonder; what makes one try anything to make others look bad? Is it because they do not trust their own abilities to be their best? Is it because they see others are flawless and want to dig deep to get some dirt and use it against them? Is it because they are just sleazy and jealous and want to destroy everyone who is slightly better or prettier or more professional than them? What makes one so desperate and pathetic to this extent?

I have dealt with so many snitches along the years, and the problem is that you always figure out who the snitch is, sometimes it would be too late after the damage has been done, especially that these snitches take only one piece of info an build a huge story of lies. Other times, the snitch would be so obvious in a way that leaves no doubt to others that he/she is the one doing all the damage and poisoning the environment that you are sharing.

I guess that no matter what we do or how careful we are, we will always find snitches here and there; so the best way to deal with this situation in my opinion, is be as candid and transparent as possible so that you don’t leave a window of opportunity to anyone to climb the ladder using your shoulders and sometimes head in the process. If you feel there is a change in the atmosphere, do not assume that this is normal and confront the situation before it snowballs; it takes only one time on your part to do that and then everyone would be careful to mess with you. At the same time; if it happened once; chances are that it will happen many times later on so no matter what you do, don’t trust the same one who ratted you and built lies around what you said or did; just be careful because these people do not have lives; they have nothing better to do … eh!! I guess it is a tough world after all
