No you are not being paranoid at all. Candid cameras have caught waiters going so far as urinating into soup, spitting into a returned steak, depositing obscene fluids into coffee. Driving in Amman, eating in restaurants around town is not safe as well. I went to a new cool Carbbiean Style Restaurant/bar and I got food posion there. My biggest fear in travel is getting a back muscle spasm and having to stay in bed for days longer than planned and missing all the schedules and fun!
